I just finished reading about re-rite, a new approach to cultivating audiences proposed by Esa-Pekka Salonen currently being pursued by his Philharmonia Orchestra. Since I have used my Examiner.com post to write about different approaches to "virtua…

Last night's performance reawakened all sorts of latent thoughts about Elgar which led to today's Rehearsal Studio post, now available for all to read!

I was there last night. I agree with Robertson that the first movement (and, for that matter, the second) is such a workout that the pianist needs a break. Why not use that "break time" for applause? If you check out my own account, you will see tha…

"San Francisco's own" Chloe Veltman attended this. She used her "lies like truth" blog to post a trip report. Personally, I prefer her summary to the prospect of slogging through the whole affair! I disagree with some of her conclusions but definite…

I have used my Examiner.com review to try to tease out connections between Mahler and Scelsi and to offer my final (at least for now) reflections on Mahler; comments are always welcome!

This morning I used my blog to write a post reflecting on a review of Jurowski conducting the "Resurrection" in London and how that review informed my listing to the Mahler Festival; all are invited to follow the hyperlink and retaliate!

I found myself feeling a bit like a Monday-morning quarterback when writing about last night's concert for Examiner.com. I ended up calling the piece "Mahler's memory," since I tend to like titles that can have more than one meaning. I offer it as a…
