Ravi Shankar, Django Reinhardt and the Hot Club Quintet, Toots Thielemans, Maxim Vengerov, Evgeny Kissin as a youngster, The Beatles, Desmond Dekker, Dinu Lipatti, Jussi Bjorling, Lester Young, whatever happens to be on WWOZ or KALX.
My favorite composers:
Sibelius & Brahms. Lou Harrison. Omar Vizquel in the field.
The instrument(s) I play (or played, as a kid):
Violin
My favorite concert of all time:
Yo Yo Ma playing three concerti for a Pension Fund concert: Haydn, Saint-Saens, Dvorak. The cummulative effect was the history of the cello. A tremendous gift, as always, from Yo Yo.
Jessye Norman, in her prime, doing Strauss' Four Last Songs. Fifth row center. She almost swallowed me whole.
Both concerts at Davies--a great place to be.
Van Halen--early eighties. A millions garage bands from way back when.
