Have you been to Davies After Hours yet? What did you think? Is it worth sticking around for? Can Symphony musicians really rock out ?(See April 24.) Does electronica really belong with chamber music? (See May 22.) Does anyone really need two more hours of music following a symphony concert?

I missed this last one, but I attended the first Davies After Hours, and really enjoyed it. Both Alex Kelly and the Mark Growden Sextet
were great, and the very large crowd that attended was enthusiastic in their appreciation of the music. Definitely looking forward to May 22nd!

To answer my own questions - yes, two more hours of music on a Friday night is good! And yes, some of those SFS musicians really can rock. NTL, made up of SFS bassist Bill Ritchen, percussionist Raymond Froelich and viola player Christina King on electric violin were great last month! Looking forward to Mercury Lounge on May 22.

uh, a big YES!! The best part is the laid-back atmosphere to mingle and chat, in addition to the freedom to grab a drink during a song that doesn't particularly strike your fancy, and going back to the show when you hear something that you like. It was a really fun atmosphere, and who knows, you might even get to meet the soloist for the night, like I did. It's at least worth checking out.

I went to the last one with NTL and really enjoyed it,. More importantly, I think it's a brilliant idea and would like to see it become a regular part of all Friday and Saturday night concerts. I look forward to the next one on 05/22.
