Sir Simon Rattle on Brahms' Symphonies

Sir Simon Rattle talks in the following video clip about recording Brahms' symphonies in advance of the Berlin Philharmonic's performances at Davies Symphony Hall Nov. 20 and 21. Brahms’s Symphony No. 1 and his Piano Quartet No. 1 are on the program Friday, 11/20; on Saturday, 11/21; they’ll perform Brahms’s Symphony No. 2, Schoenberg’s Chamber Symphony No. 1, and Wagner’s Prelude to Act I of Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg.

ANDREA LEWIS, IN MEMORIAM: I was deeply saddened by the loss of our beloved colleague and personal friend, Andrea Lewis, who died last weekend from a heart attack at age 52. Andrea, who was a radio host at KPFA, and a contributing writer for The Progressive magazine, was an alto in the San Francisco Symphony Chorus for 20 years.
